Tyler: Week 50

June 1-June 7, 2011 (49w-49w6d old)

Tyler Update:

  • He apparently loves to toss items into receptacles!   He puts our phones in his hamper, the nanny's keys in the garbage and random objects like a trackball and nursing pads in the toilet.
  • He experienced his 1st set of scrapped knees.  Kerry tried to hold his hand while walking down a sidewalk, Tyler yanked his hand away and fell to his knees.  Displaying a little independence?
  • He wants what he can't have and is starting to develop a little temper.  I am so ordering Happiest Toddler on the Block!
  • Running errands with just Tyler and myself has become quite challenging.  He's fine as long as I keep moving, but if I need to stop and pick something out, which is a frequent requirement of shopping, he gets very antsy.  He wants out of his stroller, he wants to be held, he wants down, he wants to run and knock things off of shelves.  I of course just go into the mode of doing anything to keep him from throwing a wing ding.  I hand him random (safe) items off the shelves hoping to gain 10 seconds to pick out a product.  One time I handed him a big pair of women's sunglasses and I couldn't help but laugh when I turned back around and found him staring at me with a huge grin and the glasses on!  Needless to say, errands take forever, or require frequent short trips, or better yet, I make Kerry go with me.
  • He knows how to get off the bed by himself.  He crawls to the edge, rotates a half turn and slides off feet first.
  • His favorite song is the abc song.  He has a Leapfrog Leaptop that plays about 10 songs.  He pushes the music button until it gets to the abc song, let's it play, then pushes the button again until it gets back to that song.  We now sing this to him during diaper changes, he goes from impossible to change to holding still and smiling.  Who would have ever thought that the abc song had such a lullaby affect!
  • He tried a few new foods this week; lentils (thumbs down), lima beans (thumbs up), and his first meat, organic free-range chicken breast (big thumbs up!)
  • We took him to the pool for the first time and he LOVED it!

It amazes me how one little person can be soooooo much work all the while never ceasing to say, he is the best thing that has ever happened to me!  I've found the saying "children are the hardest job you will ever have, but the most rewarding" to be spot on!  I love this little guy more than I could have ever imagined.

  1. I can't believe how incredibly brave he is! Most babies that I know don't like the pool when they first get in. Tyler takes everything on full force without fear! LOL! Go Tyler! Of course this continued bravery may mean that mommy will have no nails left from all the nervous nail biting in the future. ;0) I would have LOVED to have seen the women's sunglasses thing!!! Haha! I can only imagine how cute he looked!

  2. Tyler has developed a sense of humor. I have seen it on several occasions... like displaying the sunglasses for you. I see he is using his table for coloring already. Cute. I'M WITH SHARON, HE IS AWFUL BRAVE! Love you all as big as the sky, Mama

  3. Fun Fun Fun! I loved seeing Tyler and Kerry playing at the pool! So cute and happy! That's an awesome balancing act with Tyler standing on Kerry's hand! His key board obcession/wing-ding video was hilarious! WOW! Does he sleep with it? I see another sign he's going to be a computer dude when he grows up, instead of a football player! YEA!

Long, long agao when Lance was a toddler, he slipped away from me while I was paying for my items at the counter. I left my wallet and purse right on the counter and was running around and hollering for Lance! I was terrified! Seconds later, he stepped from behind a big tall rack of sunglasses with a huge pair on and smiled real big and said, "Here I am!" LOL I couldn't even get mad at him because he was so darn cute! That was about 27 years ago...a mother never forgets those special moments!

    Thanks for sharing-it's been fun!

    Love always, Aunt Kook

  4. How fun!! He is getting to experience all these new and exciting things! Love the videos-- he is going to be the best documented kid ever!!
What a fish you have there. Glad he loves the water... makes for a lot more enjoyable summer. :0)
I know the tantrums too well. And the diaper changing acrobatics! Maybe we should find a song. :0)
    Love and hugs to you!

  5. Ahh, the tantrums... I have just posted about this too. My husband thinks we need to look for a bigger house, to accommodate Super Nanny as well, since we'll surely be putty in his hands. In those little hands he throws in the air when he does not get his way. And he talks back! Good thing I don't know what he's saying.

Aaaaanywho... We'll never get bored though, huh? ;-))

Tyler seems quite the little fish, and the standing in his daddy's hand is spectacular as always.

So next post is about his birthday? Can't wait!
